Applied Imagination

Ice Breaker: Talk about an opportunity in your life that you created, and how did you make it exist.

Imagination is the infinite power of the human mind. It creates an opportunity before it exists, and it’s creating a way to make it exist. einstein – Imagination is more than knowledge“.

Creativity is not a science, it is an art applied, a workable art, a teachable art, a learnable art, and an art in which all of us can make ourselves more and more proficient if we choose to do so.

Imagination is the cornerstone of human endeavor.

To think intelligently – Is to think creativity.

Through exposure to certain techniques and methods it is possible to help someone approach his own creature potential.

Four aspects of mental capacity.

     1. Absorptive – The ability to observe and to apply attention.

     2. Retentive – The ability to memorize and recall.

     3. Reasoning – The ability to analyze and to judge.

     4. Creative – To visualize and foresee and to generate ideas.

Creative thinking calls for a positive attitude. We must be hopeful; we need enthusiasm, we must encourage ourselves to the point of self – confidence.

When we keep on creating, even trivially, we tend to form a habit. It soon becomes less of a problem. The more we try the more we instinctively do.

  • Ask questions.
  • Dig for facts.
  • Gain experience.
  • Watch for breaks.

Take on activities that are likely to make you cultivate your creativity. Exercise it!

The best way to apply imagination:

     1. Individual brainstorming.

     2. Followed by group brainstorming.

     3. Back to individual.

     4. Back to group.

Be creative not judgmental, ideas should not be judged until brainstorm part is finished for time being. Write down every idea.

Rules to faithfully follow:

     1. Criticism is ruled out. Judgement of ideas must be withheld until later.

     2. Free – Wheeling is welcomed – the wilder the idea the better. It’s easier to tame – done then to think – up.

     3. Quantity of ideas. The greater the number of ideas the more likelihood of winners.

     4. Combine and improve on each other’s ideas. Join two or more together when possible.

     5. Always keep sessions informal.

Worry is product of our imagination. It’s like running a video of morbid movies through our minds. We can change the tape by substituting positive, constructive pictures of life its meaning and its possibilities. As a man thinketh, so is he.

Other uses of imagination:

Association of ideas – when imagination gears itself to memory and causes one thought to lead to another.

Copious ideation – a process of thinking up all possible idea that are or might lead to solutions.

  • Let yourself go.
  • Aim for quantity not quality.
  • Loosen up your creative imagination.
  • Making your mind deliver.

Incubation and elimination – Incubate means to lie down – intentional relaxation brings on a sudden illumination – a flash to help illumination allow more time for a creative project – crystalize immediately.

Verification – Periodically testing ideas. Call upon our judgement and the judgement of others to verify at stages.
